What is IV Sedation?
IV sedation is the deepest form of sedation available in a dental office setting. Sedative medication is provided directly to your bloodstream through an IV in your hand or arm, a method of sedation dentistry. During your procedure, your oral surgeon and their team will monitor your blood pressure, oxygen levels, and heart rate to make sure you are doing ok with the sedation. They can vary the dosage at any point and can even use reversal medications if needed.
Most people who receive this form of sedation will fall asleep and have no memory of their treatment afterward. IV sedation is recommended for patients with severe dental anxiety, those with special needs, or those who are undergoing lengthy procedures.
